Lyndon plans new village hall: Dedication slated
 for spring 2010

LYNDON – The village has bought a building to serve as village hall and police station, but it won’t be move-in ready until at least spring.

The village paid $102,500 for a 1,313-square-foot house at 605 W. Commercial St. that was appraised at $125,000. The village already owned 5 acres with outbuildings and road-salt storage adjacent to the 2.97-acre lot.

Having all of the village-owned property in one spacious location would be better than housing the village hall, police station and garage in one cramped location and storing the municipal equipment at another several blocks away, board members said.

The house was built a year earlier for former Lyndon resident Lee Butler, now of Florida. He had planned to move back, but changed his mind after his wife died, village Clerk Linda Pilgrim said.

The home’s interior wasn’t finished, but Pilgrim said that was actually good for the village. “We can finish it to suit our needs.”

Village employees are doing the work as time and weather allow. Hopes are to have it done by the time the new veterans memorial in front of the building is dedicated in the spring.

Once the village hall and police station move, the current headquarters at 404 W. Commercial St. likely will be sold, Pilgrim said. There have been no estimates on what it might be worth.
