Comets run to state championship: Newman wins 1A cross country title in Peoria

PEORIA – Newman Central Catholic High School's boys cross country team made history Saturday, when the Comets won the Class 1A state cross country championship at Detweiller Park.
Newman, led by top-15 finishes from Dylan Reyes and Jake Trancoso, edged second-place Canton by one point, 122-123.
Reyes finished fifth in 15 minutes, 20 seconds. Trancoso was 13th in 15:32. Also counting toward the team total were Eric Farringer (37th, 16:13), Dylan Harkness (45th, 16:19) and Brandon Winters (80th, 16:53).
Brady Henson (137th, 17:57) and Spenser Carlson (152nd, 18:29) also competed for the Comets.
