DEERFIELD – Chicago Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas broke his left forearm during a weight training session Friday and will have surgery Saturday. He could miss 4-6 weeks.
“He tweaked his arm a little bit and he’s pretty sore,” Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said before the results of the X-rays were revealed.

Thomas, who had been battling the flu, played only 12 minutes in Chicago’s victory at Cleveland on Thursday.
X-rays confirmed the a fractured radius of the left forearm Friday. Team physicians Dr. Brian Cole and Dr. John Fernandez, assisted by Dr. Mark Cohen, will perform the surgery.
With Thomas out, rookie Taj Gibson is expected to take over as a starter.
Hansbrough scores 13 in debut: Tyler Hansbrough took a verbal jab from a fellow ex-North Carolina Tar Heel after committing his first NBA foul.
“This ain’t Carolina, T!” Antawn Jamison yelled from Washington’s bench.
Hansbrough spent his remaining minutes making it look just like Carolina.
He shot more free throws than anyone else, made the hustle plays that made him famous in college and helped the Indiana Pacers beat the Wizards 102-86 on Friday night in Indianapolis. Hansbrough finished with 13 points in 14 minutes in his pro debut after missing the preseason and the first four games with a right shin injury.
Kevin Martin out 8 weeks: Sacramento Kings leading scorer Kevin Martin (30.6 ppg) will be sidelined for about two months after deciding to undergo surgery on his injured wrist.
The team said Friday that Martin will have the operation on his left wrist on Monday and is expected to miss at least eight weeks. Martin has a non displaced hairline fracture of the navicular bone in his wrist.
