Federal, state candidates file for February primary
Monday was the final day for candidates to turn in their petitions for the Feb. 2 primary.
Voters must declare their party in the primary. Their vote in the following federal and state races on Feb. 10 will determine the 2010 general election candidates.

U.S. Senate
The seat now held by Democrat Roland W. Burris of Centralia will be on the ballot. He was appointed in 2008 and is not seeking election.

Two 14th Judicial Circuit judgeships in Rock Island County will come vacant with the next general election.
Democratic attorneys Trish Joyce of Sterling; Clarence “Mike” Darrow of Rock Island; and Maritia Quinn Griffith of Moline have filed for current Judge Larry A. Vandersnick’s vacancy; and Frank Fuhr of Taylor Ridge, also a Democrat, has filed for Judge Joseph F. Beatty’s vacancy.
Federal, state and county candidates from the New or Independent parties have a special petition circulation and filing schedule for the 2010 general election. They could circulate petitions of candidacy after March 23, and must have filed their petitions between 8 a.m. June 14 and 5 p.m. June 21.
