No one listens to generals in the field

In World War II after Gen. George Patton moved through the Battle of the Bulge, he was rapidly heading for Berlin. I heard a copy of the radio signals sent to him and also his answer. They told him he would have to wait at the city limits of Berlin until the Russians took Berlin. His answer was: “To hell with the Russians. We will take Berlin and drive those SOBs back to Moscow where they belong.” No one listened.

When problems multiplied in Korea, Gen. Douglas MacArthur told Washington to send two atomic bombs, and he would end that problem. Harry Truman ordered him to Washington and fired him. No one listened.

In the battle of Kuwait, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf won the battle of Kuwait and was going to move on to Baghdad. President Bush ordered him not to cross the border. Washington didn’t listen to Schwarzkopf. No one listened.

Now, a general wants 40,000 more troops in Afghanistan, so let’s send them and end this, or else send all who are there home.
