The death of a 22-year-old Sterling man found in his home Tuesday night appears to be a suicide, Whiteside County Coroner Joe McDonald said.

A preliminary autopsy was done; toxicology results are expected in the next few weeks, McDonald said.

Police, responding to a welfare check call, discovered the man’s body on the floor of his apartment around 9 p.m. with “self-inflicted injuries.” They still are trying to find out who he last was with.

McDonald declined to provide the manner of death, but did say a gun was not used.
