Board member sets the record straight

I would like to respond to Vern Klenz’s comments, in the Oct. 29 Web Surfer’s Voice, relating to a statement attributed to me regarding control of county expenditures.

Mr. Klenz reported correctly what he read in the Telegraph; however, the Telegraph misquoted my statement. This misstatement has been brought to the newspaper’s attention.

My actual statement was: “The county has little control over revenues, i.e., sales tax receipts, income tax revenue, etc., where we are at the mercy of the economy. However, expenditures are an area where we have significant control and is where our attention should be directed.”

Note to readers – Dick Binder is a Lee County Board member from District 2.
