Praises volleyball players for a great game

The last thing I wish to do is to incense the rivalry between our area schools, but I felt the need to express my opinion.

The Newman-Rock Falls volleyball game that I saw on Oct. 31 seemed very different from the one that the Rock Falls coach commented on in the sports section of the paper.

I saw two teams playing perhaps the best game of their seasons so far, with skill and spirit and excitement, and they did get the crowd cheering intensely at some points. It was a hard-fought game and could have easily gone into a third game. You can even argue referee decisions, but for all that, I saw a very great volleyball match. I hope other fans of both sides felt the same.

With the flu season being what it is, it’s amazing that we fielded two healthy teams. Let’s just enjoy our high school sports teams for the fun and excitement and healthy competition they bring to our community.

Note to readers – Betty L. Jordan is a library assistant at Newman Central Catholic High School. Newman defeated Rock Falls, 25-18, 25-22 for the Rock Falls Regional title.
