George Peck

VANDALIA – George F. Peck, 78, of Vandalia, formerly of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at St. John Hospital, Springfield.

George was born Jan. 3, 1931, in West Frankfort, the son of Dale and Lona (Clark) Peck. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He married Lois Rushing on May 19, 1956, in Energy.

He worked at Parish Alford in Rock Falls. He retired in 1986, from the Rock Falls post office after 28 years of service; he then went to work for Rock Falls elementary schools delivering school lunches.

He was a very active, former member of Como Baptist Church. He was involved in several areas of the church and area Baptist Association.

He enjoyed going on mission trips to help build area churches. He also enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music. He served as treasurer for the Retired Seamen Organization for the USS Braine.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Vandalia; three sons, Alan (Lisa) Peck of Lyndon, Bryan (Cindy) Peck of Rock Falls, and Keven (Wendi) Peck of Key West, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Jarrod) Clardie, Melissa, Aaron, Jennifer, Ashley, Sean, Gareth, and Micheal Peck; and one sister, Louise King of Dixon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Steve Peck; and one sister, Martha Elizabeth Gipson.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Como Baptist Church, with the Rev. Brent Cloyd officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 21 at First Baptist Church of Vandalia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vandalia Baptist Church building fund or the Carmi Children’s Home.
