Clippers clobber first-round foe

AMBOY – The Amboy-LaMoille football team had no trouble advancing to the second round of the IHSA playoffs, defeating AlWood-ROWVA 41-0 Saturday in a Class 2A first-round game.

Senior quarterback Steven Apple was 7-for-10 passing for 143 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed 12 times for 124 yards and another score.

Cody Richardson caught one of the touchdowns, and the senior back also passed for an 8-yard score to Brian Appleman. Richardson rushed for 79 yards on 18 carries.

C.J. Shields and Jake Lytle also caught touchdown passes for the Clippers (9-1), who outgained A&R 452-205.

Junior lineman Tyler Behrends led Amboy's defense with six tackles, four behind the line of scrimmage. He also forced and recovered a fumble. Shields and Westin Montavon intercepted A&R quarterback Tyler Waugh.

"They came out tough at the beginning," Apple said. "But we stopped them a few times, and things started going our way and they never really stopped."
