Storm knock out Princeton
The Bureau Valley volleyball team scored an upset at its own regional Thursday, when the third-seeded Storm knocked off second-seeded Princeton 25-15, 18-25, 25-16 in a 2A semifinal at Manlius.
Gabriela Fisch and Aubrey Franklin each had seven kills for the Storm, who will play top-seeded Mendota in Saturday’s final.
Sam Shepard set for 22 assists for BV, and Meghan Mussche had 10 digs. Molly Stephens had 20 assists and 10 digs for Princeton.
West Carroll 2, Stillman Valley 1: The third-seeded Thunder knocked off second-seeded Stillman 20-25, 25-16, 27-25 in a 2A Byron semifinal. West Carroll will play the host team – a 26-24, 22-25, 25-22 winner over top-seeded Winnebago – in Saturday’s final.
Class 1A
Fulton 2, Ridgewood 0: The third-seeded Steamers topped the second seed 25-18, 25-16 in a 1A Fulton Regional semifinal.
The Steamers’ minor upset of the Cambridge-AlWood co-op sets up a meeting with top-seeded Orion in Saturday’s final.
Amber Grant had 11 kills and Lindsey Renkes added nine for Fulton (25-12). Lydia Schaver had 20 assists, and Kim Rogis had 10 digs.
Fulton 2, Prophetstown 0: Liz Sanquist’s six kills led the Steamers to a quarterfinal win at Fulton. Schaver had 14 assists.
Milledgeville 2, Polo 0: Andrea Herin’s 12 assists and seven digs led the Missiles to a 25-13, 25-9 win against their NUIC rivals in a 1A Polo Regional quarterfinal.
Taylor Kent and Keali Engelkens also had seven digs for Milledgeville, and Engelkens had a team-high six kills and three blocks. Kent added four kills, and Brianna Herin had four aces.
Sauk Valley 3, Waubonsee 0: Kaitlyn Kielsmeier’s 12 kills and eight assists led the Skyhawks to a 25-17, 25-12, 25-13 win at Sugar Grove to close the regular season.
Sarah Weber had 11 blocks and five kills, and Merrissa Johnson added five blocks for the Skyhawks (12-21), who start regional play next Wednesday at Black Hawk in Moline.
