Lee County United Way past halfway mark
With several divisions reporting more than half of their goal, the United Way of Lee County closed its fourth report session with more than $290,000 of its $465,000 goal raised in this year’s fundraising drive.
Shopko employees exceeded their company goal with a $1,700 donation.
“Contributions from businesses like Shopko, who also report they have 15 less employees than last year, mean so much,” Kirstin Crawford, campaign co-chairwoman, said in a news release Wednesday.
“We know times are hard for everyone, and yet the community continues to stand up and support the agencies that provide much-needed services to us.”
Plews/Edelmann is reporting in with more than $15,000 in donations, which also exceeds its company goal.
The financial institutions division has raised more than 70 percent of its goal and the Amboy School District is just 20 percent away from reaching its goal.
Local builders and tradesmen also have given $3,710, the release said.
In the few next weeks, local restaurants will host Dine-Out for United Way days and gas stations will be sponsoring United Way days.
