ROCK FALLS – Roland Eugene Unger, 73, of Rock Falls, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his home. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years.

Mr. Unger was born Oct. 20, 1936, in Brookville, the son of Glenn and Vivian (Irving) Unger.
He served in the Illinois National Guard and Army Reserve. He married Susan M. Lawlor on Aug. 24, 1972.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Greg (Dee) Unger of Dixon; a daughter, Dawn (Casey) Jones of Dixon; three stepsons, Shawn (Rena) Wharff of Fulton, Craig Wharff of Bloomington, and Kelly Wharff of Rock Falls; two stepdaughters, Christine (Dave) Wharff of Waterloo, Iowa, and Rachel Kolb of Rockford; a brother, Glen (Nancy) Unger of Florida; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Susie Unger and Diana Armbruster.

There will be no funeral service. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, Dixon.

A memorial has been established.
