Comets shut out Panthers

The Newman Comets blew past the Erie-Prophetstown Panthers 48-0 on Friday in Prophetstown.

Newman’s Tim Wilson led all rushes with 85 yards, and two touchdowns.

Wilson’s first score came on a 5-yard run in the first quarter. He then scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter.

The Comets also scored through the air. Jack Hanlon connected with Andrew Schreiner on a 20-yard pass in the first quarter.

Joe Blessman chipped in 54 yards on the ground and pair of second-quarter TDs, one from 28 yards out and the other from 6 yards out.

Austin Hubbard (49 yards rushing) had a 4-yard TD in the third quarter.

John LeMay capped off Newman’s rout with a 6-yard run to paydirt in the fourth.

With the victory, Newman clinches a playoff spot.
