CGH starts vaccinating workers

CGH Medical Center in Sterling received its H1N1 vaccine and Thursday began giving the nasal spray to its employees who have direct patient contact, such as nurses.

The spray, which feels like squirts of water, goes into each nostril.

CGH started with employees who work in the emergency room, critical care unit and pediatrics and obstetrics, said Sandy Westbo, its infections control director.

They are trying to spread the vaccine throughout the hospital, “to protect the largest number of patients,” Westbo said. “Our number-one goal is patient safety.”
