Mary Snow, 23, drives a forklift at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center near Sterling and studies psychology at Sauk Valley Community College.

She and her son, Brayden Snow, 5, live in Sterling. She is the daughter of Gary and Jeanette Rhoades of Prophetstown, and has two brothers, Charles Rhoades, 36, of Montgomery, and Daniel Rhoades, 27, of Prophetstown, and a sister, Christine Rhoades, 39, of Sterling.

On-the-job lesson: Always strive for something better.

Alma mater: I got my GED from Wallace School in Sterling.

Philosophy: The only person you can control is yourself.

Oughta be a law: I’d eliminate nuclear weapons.

First job: I sewed mink bears at a shop in Prophetstown when I was 15. I didn’t like it.
