Bruins bear down: St. Bede shuts out Panthers for fifth straight time

The St. Bede Bruins had a pair of 100-yard rushers and shut out Erie-Prophetstown for the fifth straight year in a 28-0 win Friday night in Erie.

Adam Schweickert finished with 113 yards and a 12-yard touchdown on 13 carries. Backfield mate Cody Shipp was the workhorse with 142 yards and a 1-yard touchdown on 34 rushes.

Nick Hueneberg added a 2-yard run in the third quarter and Ryne Denis added an 8-yard scamper in the fourth. Denis also completed two of his seven passes for 46 yards.

Jeremy Majeski led the Panthers (2-4 Big Rivers) with 56 yards on 17 carries, and quarterback Kyle Carsten added 34 yards on the ground and 15 yards through the air, with a pair of interceptions on 2-for-6 passing.

The Bruins are now even in the conference standings with the Panthers despite starting the season on a four-game losing streak. Both teams need to win the rest of their games to become eligible for the playoffs.
