Katie Hermes, 18, of Sterling, works in the dietary department at Parkway Center, Sterling, and is studying elementary education at Sauk Valley Community College.

She is the daughter of Mark and Becki Hermes of Sterling, and has a brother, Ryan Hermes, 15, also of Sterling.

On-the-job lesson: Always be nice to everyone.

Alma mater: I graduated in 2009 from Sterling High School.

Philosophy: Live with no regrets.

Hearts: Hanging out with friends and watching movies, and anything on The Learning Channel.

Darts: Studying, and going to Wal-Mart when it’s really crowded.

Haunts: My friends’ houses or my house.

Hero: My dad. He’s always helping with stuff.

First job: I worked at State Farm Insurance in Sterling as a clerk when I was 16. I liked it. It was easy, and my hours were flexible.

First car: A 2000 Oldsmobile Alero when I was 16.
