Dukes soccer still unbeaten in NCIC; Sterling falls in tight match; Rock Falls, Newman golfers pick up wins

The Dixon Dukes remained perfect in NCIC play with a 4-1 win against Morris on Thursday at A.C. Bowers Field.

Cesar Gonzales scored two goals, Garrett Kerr added a goal and an assist, and Nate Thornton also scored for the Dukes (9-3, 5-0), who led 2-1 at halftime. Matt Kerr added a pair of assists, and Chad Bahr stopped all but one shot in goal.

IVC 3, Sterling 2: Eddie Chavez and Edgar Perez scored goals for the Golden Warriors, who lost on a direct-kick goal with 3 minutes left.

Chavez scored on a penalty kick, and Perez’s came on the rebound from a Tony Cervantes shot off the top post. IVC’s first two goals came from a corner kick and a penalty kick.

Oregon 2, Genoa-Kingston 2: Joey Ganus and Matt Ajvazi scored goals and Phil Godby made five saves as the Hawks and Cogs tied at Oregon Park West.

Ajvazi and Pat McFalls assisted on Ganus’ goal, while Andy McCormick assisted Ajvazi’s score.

Golf

Newman 166, Kewanee 168: Andrew Smith shot a 3-over-par 38 to earn medalist honors and lead the Comets to a win at Baker Park in Kewanee.

Dan Nieman and Zach Henkel each shot 42s for Newman.

Rock Falls 161, Hall 181: Tanner Brown fired a 3-over-par 38 at LakeView to lead the Rockets  to an NCIC Lincoln dual win.

Trevin Hippen (40), Ben Hoffman (41) and J.C. McNinch (42) also counted toward Rock Falls’ team score.

Amboy third at triangular: The Clippers shot 201 to lose to nonconference foes Mendota (174) and Putnam County (171) at Mendota.

Ben Daskiewicz (48) and Jamie Ryan (49) led Amboy. Putnam County’s Phil Nanni was medalist with a 4-over par 39.
