POLO – The Polo Police Department is seeking information about an apparent attempted child abduction.

A man tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car on the northwest side of town around 7 Sunday evening, Polo Police Chief Dennis Christen said in a news release Tuesday.

The man was driving a newer dark blue or black car with rear tinted windows. He may have been Hispanic, with curly hair on top and a buzz cut on the sides, a faded mustache, yellowish teeth, glasses with dark frames and some kind of an accent, the release said.

He repeatedly asked the girl if she needed a ride, and asked her if she wanted to go to McDonald’s, the release said.

“The girl ran home,” Sgt. Shawn Knight said. “Her parents called the police.”

Anyone with information can call the Polo Police Department, 815-946-3412.

Christen advised parents to talk to their children and remind them to avoid strangers, and to report all suspicious activity to police.
