DIXON – Agatha T. Tyne, 94, of Dixon, formerly of Polo, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at her home. She student taught at Pullman High School, Chicago; and was employed by Illinois Northern Utilities Co., in the industrial relations department for several years.

Agatha was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Dixon, the daughter of Martin and Anna (Healey) Tosney. She was a graduate of Dixon High School and a 1937 graduate of the University of Chicago.

Agatha married Edward M. Tyne on Feb. 10, 1954. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1971.

Agatha was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Polo, and attended St. Anne Catholic Church,
Dixon. She was a member of St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society; Polo Women’s Club; Sauk Valley Community College Foundation Board of Directors; Sterling Catholic Deanery Board of Advisers; a charter member and past officer of the Dixon Chapter of the American Association of University Women; and a member and past president of the board of directors of Milledgeville State Bank.

Survivors include her children, Margaret Anne (Charles Stoddard) Tyne of Dixon, Edward M. (Kay) Tyne Jr. of Polo, and Patricia (Patrick) O’Donnell of Naperville; and four grandchildren, Courtney Tyne of Houston, Brian Tyne and Brandi Tyne, both of Polo, and Daniel O’Donnell of Naperville.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Tosney and Dr. Harold Tosney; and one sister, Marion Tosney.

Prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home Dixon, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Dixon, with the Rev. Michael Morrissey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery Dixon.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., with a Scripture service at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Sauk Valley Community College Foundation and Heartland Health Services Hospice.
