Warriors fall at Emerald Hill: Mendota tops Rock Falls in battle of NCIC Lincoln foes

Andrew Blackburn fired an even-par 35 Tuesday thanks to three straight birdies, but the Sterling Golden Warriors lost by three shots to NCIC Reagan foe Morris at Emerald Hill.

Blackburn birdied holes 5, 6 and 7 to run away with medalist honors. Anthony Yarbrough (41), Jimmy Fliss (43) and Nathan Blackburn (45) also counted toward Sterling’s team score.

Mendota 165, Rock Falls 170: The Rockets shot four scores in the low 40s, but Jon Prescott’s 38 led the Trojans to an NCIC Lincoln win at Mendota Golf Club.

Ben Hoffman (41), Tanner Brown (42), Lirim Lecaj (43) and J.C. McNinch (44) contributed to the Rockets’ score.

Erie 175, Newman 177: The Cardinals squeaked by the Comets in a dual meet at Lake Erie Country Club, led by Jordan Jaquet’s 4-over par 40.

Rhett Kuhnen added a 41 for Erie. Zach Henkel (42) led Newman.

Byron 180, Oregon 201: Brady Szuminski fired a 2-over par 38 to lead the Tigers past rival Oregon at PrairieView Golf Course.

C.J. Ostrander (44) and Brian Ostrander (47) led the Hawks.

Galena 185, Polo 189: Galena’s Caleb Buss fired a 44 for low score as the Pirates eked out a tight win over the Marcos at Edgewood.

Josh Faivre (46), Augie Forster (47), Laurent McKinley (47) and Matt Sullivan (49) played for Polo’s team score.

Forreston 170, Eastland 193: Michael Osterloo shot a 1-over par 37 to lead the Cardinals (6-1) to victory in an NUIC dual meet at Sunset Golf Course.

Jake Thomas (46), Casey Fritz (47) and Zeke Hartman (49) paced the Cougars (3-4).

Girls golf

Moline 187, Rock Falls 267: Jamie Lawrence’s 6-over-par 41 led the Maroons past the Rockets at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley.

Allie DeVries had a 57 while Veronika Chesnek, Kaitlin Welker and Taylor Byrd each had 70.
