ERIE – A 65-year-old Iowa man was released from a Silvis hospital Saturday, the day after a rollover on Interstate 88 killed his wife.

James R. Daniel of Cedar Rapids and two unidentified 14-year-olds were taken to Genesis Medical Center’s Illini Campus. He was released Saturday. No information was available Monday on the teens.

According to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department, Daniel was eastbound on I-88 about noon Friday when he fell asleep at the wheel. His SUV drifted into the median, then swerved back onto the road, rolled several times and came to rest in a ditch.

His wife, Edith Daniel, 61, was thrown from the rear seat and pronounced dead at the scene. She apparently was not wearing a seat belt, deputies said.

The accident remains under investigation.
