JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Morgan County judge has sentenced a Waverly man to three years in prison for stealing nearly 2,000 bushels of corn near Franklin last winter.

At a hearing Tuesday, Circuit Court Judge Richard Mitchell also sentenced 36-year-old Douglas K. Cox to three years in prison for violating his probation on three felony theft charges stemming from walnut trees stolen in 2007.

Cox will serve the sentences concurrently.

In April 2008, Mitchell placed Cox on 30 months' probation and imposed a 180-day jail term that was deferred as long as Cox complied with the conditions of his probation, including paying $23,752 restitution to the trees' owners.
