Cathy Dorathy is the high school relations coordinator at Sauk Valley Community College, where she serves as a liaison between the college and area high schools.

She lives in Rock Falls with her husband, Brian Dorathy. Cathy has two sons, Adam Dorathy, 24, of Sterling, and Alec Dorathy, 18, who will attend Sauk Valley Community College in the fall; a daughter, Andrea Dorathy, 22, who will attend Western Illinois University at Macomb this fall. She also has a stepdaughter, Angela Church, 33, of Tampico, and five stepgrandsons. Cathy is the daughter of Sarah Boze of Rock Falls, and has two sisters, Anne Kenney of Sterling and Jeanne Schutz of Rock Falls, and a brother, Rob Boze, of Sterling.

On-the-job lesson: If you treat people kindly and with respect, they’ll treat you the same way.

Alma mater: I graduated in 1976 from Rock Falls High School. I received my associate’s degree in elementary education from Sauk, and my bachelor’s of education from Western Illinois University. I’m working on my master’s at Western Illinois University.

Philosophy: To try to be optimistic about everything.

Oughta be a law: End poverty.

Hearts: Gardening, being outside, walking along the Hennepin Canal, “Ugly Betty” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Darts: People treating other people unfairly, and prejudice.

Haunts: The outdoors, the library and my garden.

Hero: My mom. She’s a very strong woman.

First job: I was a cashier at Rheeling’s supermarket in Rock Falls when I was a teen. I liked it.

First car: A Ford Maverick. I was 18.

Read this: The “Wicked” series, by Gregory Maguire.

People say I look like: I used to get Liza Minnelli a lot, and my sister Anne.

Phobias: Falling.

Guilty pleasure: Chocolate.

Trading spaces: I’d like to visit Ireland, for my family.

Best thing about Rock Falls: The people. Everybody in Rock Falls is friendly.
