Roger Van Horn

STERLING – Roger L. Van Horn, 58, of Sterling, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at his home.

Roger was born July 19, 1950, in Sterling, the son of Harold A. and Ethel M. (Manon) Van Horn. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Roger married Diann Johnson on Oct. 10, 1971, in Sterling. He was employed by General Distributing in Rock Falls for several years; then he and his wife moved to Arizona, where he worked for American West Airlines for approximately 5 years. They returned back to this area in late 2007. Roger enjoyed fishing and camping; and was a member of Sterling American Legion Post 296.

Surviving are his wife, Diann; one son, Donald (Brenda) Van Horn of Sterling; four sisters, Joyce (Murrell) Bass of Sterling, Ginger (George) Bass of Rock Falls, and Diane Andrews and Sally (Keith) Reul, both of Mesa, Ariz.; four brothers, Harold “Sonny” Van Horn of Harmon, James “Jay” (Karen) Van Horn of Sterling, Steven Van Horn of Mesa, Ariz., and Jack (Kathy) Van Horn of Rock Falls; and his granddaughter, Emma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sandra Timmons.

A gathering of friends and family will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling. Military honors will follow at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
