OTTAWA, Ill. (AP) — A report from the Illinois Department of Public Health has found that a male resident at a LaSalle County-owned nursing home sexually abused 10 female residents.

The 61-page report found that the LaSalle County Nursing Home in Ottawa failed to recognize or prevent the abuse.

According to the report, the male resident would roam the nursing home and inappropriately touch and kiss female residents, some of whom couldn't speak or had dementia.

In the report, several patients, nurses and other employees describe the abuse, which allegedly started in December. The male resident was moved to an inpatient psychiatric unit on June 5.

LaSalle County Board chairman Jerry Hicks says the county will investigate the nursing home.
