KEWANEE – A former Rock Falls resident working as a teacher at Kewanee High School is facing charges of sexually assaulting a student, Kewanee police said Tuesday.

Mario R. Olalde, 28, was arrested Monday and charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a news release from Kewanee police.

Olalde, a 1998 graduate of Rock Falls High School, was being held this morning in the Henry County Jail on $150,000 bond.

An investigation was launched after school officials expressed concerns over reports they had received, Kewanee Detective Sgt. Gary Moore said in the release.

Kewanee school Superintendent Dr. Chris Sullens told the Peoria Journal-Star that Olalde had just completed his fourth year as a teacher at the school. He teaches government and world cultures and is adviser for KHS’s group interpretation team, Sullens said.
