City gets grants to upgrade sidewalks and lighting

PROPHETSTOWN – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has given this river town a $99,500 Rural Business Enterprise Grant that will be used to upgrade downtown sidewalks and street lighting.
“These funds are vital in promoting the economic development of Prophetstown and Whiteside County,” U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, D-Geneva, said in a news release. “According to the USDA, this project will save 113 jobs and assist 33 businesses while revitalizing downtown Prophetstown.”
“The grant is very much appreciated,” Mayor Steve Swanson said. “The City Council, myself and the citizens of Prophetstown are looking forward to the improvements this grant will allow.”
