Meyers’ home run lifts Newman

Michael Meyers’ solo home run in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday gave the Newman Comets a 10-9 win over Erie-Prophetstown in Prophetstown.

Cody Behrens hit a three-run home run and pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. Eric Farringer also homered for Newman (6-9, 5-3 Three Rivers).

Brandon Borkovec hit a home run, doubled and drove in three runs for Erie-Prophetstown (11-9, 4-5).

Morrison 8, Bureau Valley 1: Jason Smith pitched a one-hitter to lead the Mustangs at Manlius.

Smith (6-1) struck out 15, walked one and hit one. The only hit he allowed was a first-inning single to Eric Ringle.

Kyle Dermody, Andrew Cook and Charlie Dennehy each had two RBIs for Morrison (19-2, 7-1 Three Rivers).

Ottawa 5, Dixon 3: Tyler Mey had three hits, including a double, for the Dukes in a road loss.

Brenden Gould took the loss for Dixon (9-13, 3-6 NCIC Reagan), allowing five runs, six hits and one walk while striking out eight in 4 2/3 innings.

Neil Hanley homered, doubled and had three RBIs for Ottawa.

Jackson Smith pitched a complete game.

IVC 16, Rock Falls 0: Chris Razo pitched a one-hitter to lead the Grey Ghosts (21-2, 9-0) to a rout in Chillicothe.

Forreston 15, AFC 1 (5 innings): The Cardinals scored 10 runs off Dillon McCannon in the first inning in Forreston.

Brian O’Connell had two hits and a home run for AFC (4-14, 2-8 NUIC East).

Garrett Vietmeier had a home run and two RBIs for Forreston (8-17, 4-6).

Byron 3, Oregon 0: Doug Lillibridge and Tait Rauen combined to no-hit the Hawks in Oregon.

Ben Bruns took the loss for the Hawks, allowing three runs and five hits and striking out four.

Softball

Newman 2, Erie-Prophetstown 1: Michele Salvatori hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning to lead Newman to the win in Prophetstown.

Salvatori pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and striking out 13. Sarah Cesarek doubled and drove in a run for Newman (15-5, 7-0 Three Rivers).

Sydney Stewart drove in a run for Erie-Prophetstown.

Morrison 6, Bureau Valley 3: Kerrie Tenboer had three hits and drove in two runs in Manlius.
