Fillies rebound for win against Kewanee

Christie Wiersema and Amanda Smith combined for a one-hitter Wednesday, and the Morrison softball team rolled in an 11-1, 6-inning victory against Kewanee.

Wiersema (1-0) struck out six in four innings and Smith struck out three in two innings for Morrison (1-1).

Hailey Hall had two singles and a double, Wiersema, Smith and Ashley Vegter each added a single and a double, and Ashley Wieneke had a pair of singles for the Fillies. Smith drove in three runs, and Marie Deter and Keisha Hodge added two RBIs each.

Bureau Valley 4, Annawan 3: Sam Shepard’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth provided the margin of victory in Manlius.

Shepard (1-0) also pitched for BV, striking out five in eight innings. The Storm scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 3-0 deficit.

Baseball

Annawan 4, Bureau Valley 2: The Storm allowed two runs in the top of the seventh at Manlius.

Peter Elliott and Tevis Mott each had two hits, and Elliott also drove in a run for BV (0-1). Elliott took the loss in relief of starter John King.

Ryan Bumphrey had two hits and three RBIs for A-W, and J.D. Draminski hit a solo home run.
